A parent code is a randomly-assigned sequence of letters and numbers used by teachers and schools to get parents connected to their children's artwork.
The parent code allows a parent to verify their identity, give consent for their child to display artwork publicly and use the Class Portal, and create a parent account.
Every student on Artsonia is assigned a unique parent code. In addition, each teacher is also assigned a parent code.
If the teacher use the teacher assigned parent code, he/she distributes the code via one of their school communication tools. Once a parent registers and gives permission for his/her child, the teacher will then be required to verify and approve the parent connection by confirming the parent email address with their school records. After the teacher approves the connection, the parent is then registered and connected to his/her child.
If the teacher chooses to use the student assigned parent codes, the teacher can distribute the codes in one of the following ways:
- Emailed parent codes
Teachers may enter in parent email addresses (either via a spreadsheet or manually). Artsonia will then send an email to the parent that contains a link that embeds the parent code. Parents must click the link contained in the email (or go to the parent section of the website and directly enter the code) to give permission for his/her child to participate in Artsonia. - Printed slips
Teachers may instead send home a printed slip that contains the parent code that parents must enter into the parent section of the website to give permission for your child to participate on Artsonia.
By granting permission and also creating a parent account, parents also gain access to approve visitor comments, view feedback from the teacher, and more.
