The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects the online privacy of children under the age of 13 and requires Artsonia to obtain parental consent or notice (as appropriate) prior (with limited exceptions) to the collection, use and disclosure of that child's personal information. Due to the requirements of COPPA, Artsonia requires parents to give consent before the child can login and upload any content through the Classroom Mode feature or otherwise use Artsonia.
Teachers who activate Classroom Mode can elect to have Artsonia collect "Verifiable Parental Consent" directly from parents prior to allowing students to select their name and submit artwork, titles or statements.
In addition, if the school has obtained appropriate permission forms from parents, the teacher may give "school consent" on behalf of the parents as allowed under COPPA. To indicate this, the teacher must login to his/her account on Artsonia and select the specific students (for which they have collected permissions) in order to activate the student to use Classroom Mode.
